Get to know Curt Kim
Why did you decide to change career and/or educational paths? What was your prior path and how did you end up down that road initially?
As a pharmacist working in retail during the COVID-19 pandemic, I witnessed the critical importance of technology in healthcare. While I appreciated the value of my work, I recognized that technology could help improve patient outcomes and streamline processes in ways that traditional methods could not. Additionally, I saw how the lack of adequate technology could hinder access to healthcare, which further reinforced my belief in the importance of innovation in this field. I decided to change my career path and pursue software development, which would allow me to utilize my skills in a new and impactful way. My background in pharmacy gives me a unique perspective and understanding of healthcare systems, which I believe will be an asset in any health-related tech projects I work on.
Where have you been involved in the tech community (events attended, volunteer activities, etc.)?
I'm interested in attending events held by Boston Code and Coffee and other hackathons around the Greater Boston Area to help jumpstart my development experience.
What has been the most fulfilling aspect of your journey towards becoming a web developer? What's been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome it?
I find it fulfilling to see how coding can solve real-world problems, especially in health-related issues. The volume of information to learn is a big technical challenge, but I focus on the most relevant areas and collaborate with other developers. While I may not be an expert in all areas of software development, I'm eager to learn and excited about contributing to meaningful projects with an experienced team.
If you had an unlimited budget and resources, what would you build?
I would build a self-sustainable health facility that provides affordable and accessible healthcare to everyone. My goal would be to revolutionize the healthcare industry by creating a one-stop shop that streamlines the delivery of healthcare services from screening to treatment, including post-surgical care, outpatient therapy, medication therapy, nutrition, and physical therapy. I believe that this kind of facility could make a significant impact on the lives of people in underserved communities, where healthcare access is often limited. To achieve this vision, I would focus on automation and technology to streamline processes and reduce costs, while also ensuring that the highest standards of care are maintained. Ultimately, my goal would be to create a facility that is not only affordable and accessible but also welcoming and comfortable, providing a positive healthcare experience for all. I believe that this project would not only benefit those who use the facility but also inspire others in the healthcare industry to think creatively and push the boundaries of what is possible.
