Back Nine
Breakable Toy
Back Nine is a full stack web application for golfers of all skill sets. Built with React, JavaScript, Node.js and Express, this app allows the user to input their scores from their golf rounds and keeps track of the data from the round to show how the user is improving each time they play. Using the Google Charts API, the user can see data of each round based on their score and how many holes the user played. Back Nine also uses the Google Maps API to see satellite images of different golf courses based on search.
I have been an avid golfer for as long as I can remember. Throughout my golf career there has been times where i kept a handicap and times I have not. However, one thing i have always done is try to keep track of my scores through data and averages. I made Back Nine for that reason exactly, a free and easy way for golfers of any skill set to track their scores and watch their progression for each round they play.
Every Day is a Holiday
Every Day is a Holiday is a full stack web application where users can sign in to view and review their favorite holidays, built with a small team of four. This application is built with React, JavaScript, Node.js and Express.
After being tasked with creating a review site, my group and I decided on reviewing holidays due to the funny fact that there are so many obscure holidays throughout the year. We believe that a place where a community of people can review both popular and obscure holidays alike was a great way to showcase our skills as developers.

What are you looking for in your next role?
Ideally I am looking for a Front End Developer role in a mid-size company. I would like the company to be big enough to have the resources to help me grow as a developer and small enough where I am personally making a contribution to the products we are delivering to the public.
Why did you decide to change career and/or educational paths? What was your prior path and how did you end up down that road initially?
I have wanted to make this career switch ever since I wrote my first line of code on Codecademy a few years ago. I have gone back and forth in my mind multiple times over the years whether or not to finally make the jump into a professional program to officially make the career switch and this year I decided it was time to make it happen with Launch Academy. My previous background is in sales in the alcohol industry and in my heart I knew that was not for me in the long run. I was introduced to coding from my father who works as a UX director and ever since I wrote my first line of HTML code I haven't looked back!
Where have you been involved in the tech community (events attended, volunteer activities, etc.)?
As of right now i have not been active in the community but given the opportunity I would love to start attending any events or volunteer activities that I come across. Some different groups that have caught my eye have been The New England Technology Group and the Boston Python User Group which goes over basics of Python.
What has been the most fulfilling aspect of your journey towards becoming a web developer? What's been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome it?
Throughout my entire journey towards becoming a web developer I have had so many moments of pride and fulfilling aspects. In the beginning, after deciding to self teach myself, I fell in love with the design aspect of building a web app. The feeling of showing friends and family a super simple page that I designed and getting the affirmation that I could turn this into a career was the push that I needed. After getting accepted into Launch I was beaming with pride that I am finally making a career switch into something I love. Since being at Launch, the most fulfilling aspect was definitely during the React portion of the curriculum, I fell in love with building a usable web app from the ground up. Although I ran into technical challenges throughout the program, I believe my biggest trouble was with the use of databases and joining multiple tables in a database. However, I look forward to the opportunity to work with databases more in the future to continue my education in that aspect of the job.
If you had an unlimited budget and resources, what would you build?
I have always wanted to make an app dedicated to travel and seeing the world through others' eyes. With an unlimited budget I would make an app that is your own personal atlas. It has your profile with a map of the world where all the countries you have visited are lit up on the map. If you click on one of the countries you've visited, all your pictures and stories from your visit will come up in a timeline. On the app you can also follow people and places to see the travels and culture of others. I think one of the most important things in life is to learn about cultures of people or places that you are not familiar with and this app will promote traveling out of your comfort zone to see what the rest of the world has to offer.
